Placing items in your self storage unit is not exactly the hardest thing on earth to do but utilizing the space you have to work with can be an art of sorts. The more space that is utilized in your self storage unit, the more valuable the space becomes to you because less money is wasted on unused space. Making the most of your self storage unit is not difficult but it does involve a few different steps that will only make your life easier.
The first place you want to start when making the most of your self storage unit is to choose a storage facility location that is convenient to you. You may ask what does location have to do with utilizing storage space but finding a self storage facility that is nearby and easy to get to is essential so you are not driving all over the earth wasting gas to get to your items. Once you have a nearby location the next thing to do is choose an adequate sized unit for the things you need to store so you are not left with too much space or too little space for your items. The best thing to do if you are unsure of the space size needed is to consult a manager or associate at your local self storage facility and give them a list of some of the things you will be storing so they can help to suggest a size for you. If you are still not 100% on the size that you need you can always stop by your local facility and take a look at the unit in person to see if it will work for you.
Once you have your unit size all picked out and purchased the next step is moving your items into the unit. This is where you want to be extra careful in how you place the items in your unit. You want to utilize as much space as possible and have easy access to the things that you will need most often so here are a few tips for packing your unit efficiently. Pack the items you will most likely NOT need furthest away from the door. Especially if you have furniture that you will not need access to, it is best the furniture goes to the back of the unit so it will not be in your way if you need to get to items you will be using more frequently. If you are storing dressers, end tables, kitchen tables etc. you can stack these items top to top as to utilize the most space possible. Also if you are storing dressers and furniture with drawers you can place smaller items within the drawers to save additional space. If you are storing a table that you want to keep constructed you can always place boxes under the table to save space and you can also stack other item and furniture on top of the table so no space goes unused. If you are storing your couches you can always store them on end as not to use to much floor space but if you don’t want to stack them on end you can flip one couch on top of the other to utilize that space efficiently. It is also a good idea to leave yourself an isle in the middle of the unit so if need be you can access items in the back of the unit. One very important thing to remember is any items that you will need to access frequently should be placed in the front of the unit so you can get to them quickly and easily.
Keeping your frequently used items in the front of the unit will save you time and frustration especially if you are in a rush and need to grab your items and go.
These few simple tips can save you tons of time and frustration while utilizing your self storage unit. Like I said earlier in the post, packing your self storage unit is not a hard feat but when you are looking to make the most out of your space these simple tips can save you tons of time, frustration, energy and money.
