If you’re interested in renting a unit at Storage Station in any of our New Jersey or our New York facilities, here are a few storing tips to get you on the right track. If you are storing metal or tools make sure you clean and then fully dry them off if you used a liquid cleaner before you put them in storage. By doing this, you prevent the possibility of them attracting dirt or dust.
Tools are expensive and you took the time to think about where you are going to keep them so maybe it is a good idea to think about how to keep them in good condition for future use. It would be less money that you would need to put out of your hard earned pay check later for new ones. Books always should be packed flat to protect their spines. Do not place cardboard boxes directly on the concrete floors. Place a plastic cover on the floor. We sell them here if you need one. Then, place the boxes on top of that, to avoid moisture absorption.
For fragile or breakable items, you should wrap each individual item before placing them in the same box. You want to make sure that your items that are breakable are packed snug in a box that is not over stuffed. This will assure that your items are kept safe and will not break. Then place packing bubbles on the bottom of the box as well as at the top of the box. Always place heavier items at the bottom of the box and lighter items at the top of the box. This goes for fragile items, as well as not so fragile items, and for boxes as a whole. By placing heavier boxes on the floor and stacking lighter boxes on top of them as you get higher, prevents tipping. Place dust covers over all furniture that is being stored. This will prevent the furniture from getting dusty.
Never store food in your unit. This is one tip that I can’t stress enough . By storing food; it could cause bugs and animals to be attracted to your storage space and what it is containing. You do not want to have your belongings infested with bugs and animals do you? For your protection Storage Station provides a rental agreement when renting a unit. This agreement is for a month to month basis. This means you are only obligated to stay with us for at least one month, but are welcome to stay with us as long as you want or need. An associate will go over the agreement with you. But it is a good idea for you to read the agreement over yourself, thoroughly, to make sure you understand everything fully. If you do not understand something, ask the associate all the questions you may have. We love answering your questions and will help you as much as we can. Storage Station at 1867 Greenwood Turnpike West Milford New Jersey has all you would need for packing supplies as well.
Self storage does not have to be a task. There are people that will give you all the little tips that make your stay at Storage Station an easy one. You won’t find a staff that is more helpful or knowledgeable about the self storage industry.
