Wayne New Jersey 101

In 2010 Wayne, NJ has been ranked #73 in CNNMoney’s Best Places to Live list of America’s best small cities.

The township consists of 25.2 square miles of land and water (23.8 land and 1.4 water) bordering 12 neighboring municipals, and numerous lakes which includes Pines Lake, Packanack Lake and Pomption Lakes.

Wayne is comfortably located only 15 miles outskirt of Manhattan or less than 20 miles from midtown New York City.  The township provides close-knit community feel filled with recreational facilities, museums, and hiking trails.

Wayne is also home of Willowbrook mall, which is the fourth largest shopping mall in New Jersey, High Mountain Park Preserve, and William Paterson University.

Moreover, ToysRUs Corporation Headquarter and Valley National Bank Corporate Headquarters are located in Wayne, NJ creating stable job creation and healthy economic sustainability of the town.

Every year, during summer season, thousands of local businesses and citizens congregate together to celebrate Wayne Day filled with rides for children, face painting for all ages, rock climbing, dance troop show cases, circus related entertainments, bounce houses, and of course, food.

Not only this day preside opportunities for local businesses/ groups to represent and advertise to the general public, but it also allow the community to collectively gather in one place to celebrate as a town.

Wayne township School district has around 8,780 students who are enrolled within 14 schools (Albert P. Terhune, Anthony Wayne Middle School, Fallon Elementary School, George Washington, John F. Kennedy, Lafayette, Packanack, Pines Lake, Randall Carter, Ryerson, Schuyler-Colfax Middle School, Theunis Dey, Wayne Hills High, and Wayne Valley High).

Wayne District rating compared to U.S. is 10 (10 being best), and compared to State is 7 (10 being the best) with student per classroom is 17 (state average is 12).

Public School Test Scores (No Child Left Behind Program) is relatively high in comparison with the state’s score: i.e. Proficient in Reading and Math is 89% (State 78%), Proficient in Reading 90% (State 80%), and Proficient in Math 88% (State 75%).

School district enrollment by ethnic/racial group, in comparison to State of New Jersey, differs drastically.  For instance, White/non-Hispanic 84.4% (54.9% State), African-Americans 1.1% (17.4%), Hispanic 6.1% (19.4%), Asian or Pacific Islander 8.4% (8.1%), and American Indian or Native of Alaska 0.0% (0.2%).

Notable residents who has lived or living in Wayne include Jay Della Valle (filmmaker, singer and songwriter), Lou Duva (Hall of Fame Boxing trainer and manager), Lisa Edelstein (American actress and playwright), John A. Ferraro (actor, director), Greg Olsen (tight end for the Chicago Bears), Danielle Staub (The Real Housewives of New Jersey cast member), and George Washington (founding father and the first President of United States).
